AS WE GATHER ~ “O God, O Lord of heav’n and earth, Thy living finger never wrote That life should be an aimless mote, A death-ward drift from futile birth. Thy word meant life triumphant hurled In splendor through Thy broken world. Since light awoke and life began, Thou hast desired Thy life for man.” Martin Franzmann, 1907-76
God is the giver of life, health, and salvation. His vision of life is one of divine service—the total emptying of Himself up for us in time and eternity. In our daily living and worship we receive God’s divine gifts, and respond in gratitude and praise. Today we hear and receive God’s Word first, only then responding in prayer and praise.

SEWING FOR MISSIONS
We have completed 100 shoebox/hygiene kits from Trinity church this year and have now delivered them to the drop-off church and soon they will be on their way to Calgary and then round the world.
THANKS to the 14 gals who came faithfully and sewed, and stuffed and assembled on Wed. and then took some more home to sew as well. Thank you Sew and Sews for helping fill these kits and boxes and get them ready for children. THANK you, members, for your donations to help with shipping charges for all these boxes and making this mission happen for Trinity, Abbotsford.
This year the shoeboxes are going to ten countries: West Africa (Gambiz, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Guinea), Costa Rica, El Salvador, Philippines, Nicaragua, and Ukraine.
We plan on continuing with our Sew and Sews in 2024 and beginning work on more hygiene kits. So come and join us! Darlene and Lucille

Learn to know Christ and Him crucified. Learn to sing to Him, and say, “Lord Jesus, You are my righteousness, I am Your sin. You have taken upon Yourself what is mine and given me what is Yours. You have become what You were not so that I might become what I was not.” ― Martin Luther Quotes by Martin Luther (gracequotes.org)
UKRAINE AID FUND UPDATE: As of November 10, the people of LCC have raised a total of $778,242.89for the LCC Ukraine Relief Aid Fund. @ Lutheran Church-Canada Donate
REMINDER: Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC)’s Ukraine Aid Fund directly supports our partner church, the Synod of Evangelical Lutheran Churches in Ukraine (SELCU) during this current crisis. The Ukraine Aid Fund established by Concordia Lutheran Mission Society (CLMS) will contribute to rebuilding efforts and other expenses, anticipating the significant financial need that will arise in the aftermath of this current conflict. As auxiliaries of LCC, the funds raised through CLMS, and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League of Canada (LWMLC) to name another example, will be directed to our partner Church in Ukraine through LCC. This is just one of the ways that the various auxiliaries, listed service organizations, and people of our Synod are working together, as one Body under Christ in support of humanitarian works of mercy. Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR) is also working to provide general humanitarian relief in Ukraine through the help of their partner organizations.
AS WE GATHER ~ During the last few Sundays of the Church Year we turn our attention to God’s new creation and the eternal kingdom. Though we find our busy lives constantly dealing with change, the Day of our Lord is coming and we have an appointment with the destiny prepared for us in Christ. As we wait without anxiety or fear, we focus on what He has done to prepare us for that day. He has called us from darkness into His marvelous light. By the aid of His Holy Spirit, we learn to live as children of light—watching and waiting for His return.

REMEMBRANCE DAY: Every year on November 11, Canadians pause in a silent moment of remembrance for the men and women who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace. We honour those who fought for Canada in the First World War (1914-1918), the Second World War (1939-1945), and the Korean War (1950-1953), as well as those who have served since then. More than 2.3 million Canadians have served our country in this way, and more than 118,000 have died. They gave their lives and their futures so that we may live in peace.

AS WE GATHER The final three weeks of the Church Year are traditionally concerned with “the last things.” The lessons of the Church bring a special opportunity to reflect on the end of time and on the end of our earthly lives. In the Apostles’ Creed, we affirm our belief in the resurrection of the body, which is God’s good but temporary gift to us while we are living on earth. With all who have died in the faith before us, we await the coming of the Lord. Paul writes, “We shall all be changed.” Our faithful worship helps us prepare for that glorious event!

The last Sunday in October is our annual festival of Reformation. Reformation celebrates the basics of the Christian faith and renewal in the church. On Oct. 31, 1517, Dr. Martin Luther, an Augustinian monk and teacher, posted his Ninety-Five Theses on the Castle Church door — the church bulletin door — in Wittenberg, Germany. It was the day before All Hallows (All Saints) Day, when all would come to the Castle Church for worship. Luther’s All Hallows Eve action — desiring that the church be faithful to the Gospel — is widely regarded as the beginning of the Reformation.

Please see / phone Darlene or Lucille if you need more information. THANK YOU for all your help!

Christmas joy in a Shoe Box Kick Off ~ October 15th! (This Sunday!)
The best Christmas gifts are the ones that come from the heart. And sometimes, they come from a Shoe Box!

These Shoe Boxes bring joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world, regardless of gender, race, religion or age.
Literature on the procedure of the project is included in each Shoe Box. Please fill a Shoe Box or two or even three and help bring the joy of Christmas to children around the world. **The return date for gift-filled Shoe Boxes is November 12th

UKRAINE AID FUND UPDATE: As of September 14, 2023, the people of LCC have raised a total of $777,867.89for the LCC Ukraine Relief Aid Fund.
AS WE GATHER: God calls His people to lives of commitment, including making commitments to the Church and to the nation where the people live. Ultimately, God is Lord over both the Church and over all nations. Sometimes, in His providence, He shows His dominion in ways not readily understood. He may use non-Christian leaders and unchristian nations to further His gracious plans. In living our lives, we are called to carry out the duties and responsibilities associated with citizenship in our nation. At the same time we are to demonstrate our highest allegiance to God by being people of faith who show love and evidence hope in all situations.
Bible Readings
OLD TESTAMENT READING: Isaiah 45:1-7(There is none beside the Lord who rules the world)
EPISTLE READING: 1 Thess. 1:1-10(God’s chosen people in Christ as examples of faith)
HOLY GOSPEL: Matthew 22:15-22 (Teaching about giving what is due to Caesar and to God)
AS WE GATHER Whenever we come together for the Lord’s Supper, we anticipate the eternal worship of heaven, which the Bible compares to a wedding feast. The Sacrament is a foretaste of the feast to come. God invited His people through the prophets. The description of that Meal includes seeing God face-to-face. In today’s Gospel, Jesus again extends the invitation through His parable, but He notes the varying responses it receives. Paul leads us to respond with rejoicing. Knowing that the eternal feast is ready, we may be content in all circumstances.
BIBLE READINGS
OLD TESTAMENT READING: Isaiah 25:6–9 (There is only rejoicing at the heavenly banquet.)
EPISTLE READING: Philippians 4:4–13 (Knowing the Lord produces contentment in all circumstances.)
HOLY GOSPEL: Matthew 22:1–14 (The parable of the wedding feast)
