This Means War!

FIRST SUNDAY IN LENT

March 6, 2022

AS WE GATHER
As soon as Jesus leaves the Jordan after His Baptism, the Spirit leads Him into the wilderness. This marks the opening skirmish between Him and Satan, and the war is on! The conclusion comes when the devil thinks it is “an opportune time,” as Jesus dies. But by dying, He destroys death, and all who call on the name of the Lord will be saved, Paul assures us in the Epistle. God kept His promises as He led the people to the Promised Land, the psalmist relies on Him for all things, and so do we as the battles in our lives continue, even though the war has been won.

Bible Readings

OLD TESTAMENT READING: Deuteronomy 26:1–11
(First fruits shall be given at the end of the journey.)

EPISTLE READING: Romans 10:8b–13
(The Word is near you.)

HOLY GOSPEL: Luke 4:1–13 (Jesus defeats the devil in the wilderness.)

Christmas joy in a Shoe Box Is back at Trinity Lutheran

The Canada-wide 2021 Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box collection season has begun, and thousands of individuals, families, churches, businesses, and community groups will be filling Shoe Boxes with gifts for less fortunate kids around the world.

These Shoe Boxes bring joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world, regardless of gender, race, religion or age.

Literature on the procedure of the project is included in each Shoe Box.  Please fill a Shoe Box or two or even three and help bring the joy of Christmas to children around the world.

The return date for gift-filled Shoe Boxes is November 14th

The best Christmas gifts are the ones that come from the heart.  And sometimes, they come from a Shoe Box!

Lutheran Service Book

You are welcome to sign out a copy from the office to guide you through your at-home devotions. Or download a free copy of  “Orders of Daily Prayer with Hymns” from Concordia Publishing House . You will find it to be a treasure for worship and prayer at home and has some of the best hymns that the Holy Christian Church possesses. Audio files of the hymns are also available online.

Pray and Serve

We should not panic – this as an opportunity to pray and serve as opportunities arise. The Holy Christian Church has faced much worse and not only endured, but thrived!  As we should at all times, we need to look up for our redemption as always.

We urge you to pray and read your Bible at home. Pray for

      • Our nation and its leaders
      • Your neighbors, friends and loved ones
      • All the medical staff who are serving faithfully in the midst of this global crisis

Tithing Options While Services are Suspended

PAD (Pre-authorized Debit Program, formerly POP) has been around for a long time. It is a convenient tithing option for our members.

For those who have not signed up for the PAD program, you might wish to consider doing so now by:

  • Emailing Susan and requesting to be added to PAD
  • Completing this PDF form and either mail it to the church or drop it off at the church

If you do not wish to sign up for PAD, we encourage you to continue to give your offerings to the church so that our normal operating expenses can be met. You can do so by:

  • Mailing in your offering to the church
  • Dropping your offering off at the church during office hours so that .  But please, call ahead before you do so.
  • Probably easiest, sending in your offering via LLC’s secure payment website. LCC will forward your donations to Trinity.
